Looking for Gigs!

For the past several years I’ve been focusing pretty intently on teaching guitar. I think teaching is an important part of the musician’s calling. I’ve enjoyed the privilege of working with and learning from many wonderful students. But I’m sensing a change in the wind.

Yes, i plan to continue teaching but I’m also getting the “itch” to do more gigging. Do you have a restaurant, a wedding, a situation that could benefit from some acoustic guitar music? Contact me and let’s see what we can come up with. Live music makes any occasion better.

Today I played music for people in a hospital. At my first stop a man, with his tearful wife next to him, motioned me to his bedside. He was on oxygen and was having a difficult time speaking. A nurse had informed me he was dying. He asked if he could play my guitar. As his hand struggled to find the familiar chord shapes he began faintly singing “softly as I leave you”. Wow, the way music ties our lives together. The way it says things that are hard to say.

A few minutes later I’m walking down the hall past the nurses station. A transport guy is there with an empty transport bed. He starts telling me what a great singe he is. I play “My Girl”. He jumps in. No, he’s not a great singer. Good singer, maybe, but he definitely has all the moves and gestures. Very entertaining for the nurses and me. He brightened everyone’s’ day. People are amazing.
